DALLAS, Texas — Dallas police are searching for whoever shot and killed a 28-year-old man on South Tyler Street on Friday night.
Officers were sent to the 3700 block of South Tyler Street at about 9:10 p.m. on Oct. 30 after a report of a shooting. They found Samarius Johnson, 28, who had been hit by gunfire several times. He died at the scene.
Police said the gunman ran off before the first officers got there. As of Saturday, detectives had not identified a suspect and were still trying to work out a motive.
No arrest has been announced, and police have not released a description of the shooter or said whether Johnson and the person who shot him knew each other.
Detectives are asking anyone who knows something about the killing to call the Dallas Police Department’s homicide unit. The detective assigned to the case can be reached at 214-671-3523.
Police did not say how many shots were fired, what kind of gun was used or whether any other people were near Johnson when he was hit. Investigators typically canvass the surrounding blocks for witnesses and look for doorbell or business camera video that may have caught the shooter arriving or leaving.
Johnson’s death is one of several fatal shootings Dallas officers have responded to in recent days, and the department has not said whether it believes the cases are connected.
People who want to share information without giving their name can also contact North Texas Crime Stoppers, which takes tips by phone and online and does not require callers to identify themselves.
