DALLAS, Texas — Dallas Wings guard Azzi Fudd opened a freshly renovated outdoor court on Thursday at Casa Linda Park in East Dallas, then stayed to play a round of knockout with the girls who came out for the ribbon cutting.
The court is painted with flowers across the playing surface and the backboards, and a message on the sideline plays on her nickname, the People’s Princess, by saying every princess needs a court. The park sits at 1500 San Saba, and Dallas Parks lists an outdoor basketball court among its amenities.
Fudd, the top pick in the 2026 WNBA draft, worked on the project with Cash App, her partner since earlier this year. The nonprofit Project Backboard, which renovates public courts and adds large art designs, helped with the work. The group says it has redone more than 100 courts in over 25 states since it started in 2015.
This is not her first local outreach. In June, Fudd and Cash App held a youth clinic with the Dallas-area nonprofit Rae’s Hope and gave the group $35,000 for its work helping girls through sports, school and life-skills programs.
On the court, the 23-year-old put up 13.1 points and 1.8 steals a game as a rookie and earned a spot on the league’s All-Rookie team. A right knee injury cut her first season short, and she had arthroscopic surgery in August. The Wings went on to lose in the first round of the playoffs to the Golden State Valkyries, who reached the WNBA Finals. She has also turned up this offseason in a Jordan Brand commercial built around Space Jam.
