Dallas, Texas – William “Bill” Harold Edwards, Jr., a prominent figure in the healthcare industry, passed away at his residence on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the age of 67 after a courageous ten-month battle with cancer. Known for his dynamic leadership and pioneering contributions, Bill’s legacy spans over fifty years in healthcare.
As the former President and CEO of Medshares, Bill led one of the country’s largest privately held healthcare systems, employing over eighteen thousand individuals nationwide. His tenure at Medshares was marked by the development of many long-lasting relationships with colleagues and a commitment to advancing healthcare services. Following his time at Medshares, Bill stayed active in the healthcare sector by participating in multiple ventures, including Health Care Partners, Guardian Healthcare Holdings Inc., and Intrepid USA Healthcare Services Inc. He played a critical role in the initial public offerings of various healthcare companies, significantly influencing the industry.
In addition to his professional achievements, Bill was a dedicated philanthropist. He invested his time and resources in advancing medical research and education, ensuring that future patients and scholars would benefit from his contributions. Bill is survived by his husband, Randal “Ran” Moore; his two sons, William Harold Edwards III and Robert Christopher Edwards; and his cousin, Judy Strayer Smith. The family expresses profound gratitude to the medical professionals and institutions that provided support during Bill’s illness, including Dr. Laurie Glimcher and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where he received care.
A memorial visitation for friends and family will take place on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas, from 5 PM until 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to support continued cancer research and patient care.
