Dallas, Texas – Gray Media has made a significant contribution of $25,000 to the Salvation Army to aid in flood relief efforts following catastrophic flooding in Central Texas, which has resulted in over 100 confirmed deaths. The donation was presented by KLTV (KTRE) Vice President & General Manager Patrick Stacey during an event in Dallas. This contribution is part of the “Together For Texas” emergency donation drive initiated by Gray Media, in collaboration with Graham Media Group and The Salvation Army.
The Together For Texas drive was launched in response to severe flooding that occurred over the July 4th weekend, causing widespread devastation across Central Texas and the Hill Country. Reports indicate that more than a foot of rain fell in less than 12 hours, leading to flash floods primarily in the western Guadalupe River basin. The intensity of the rainfall resulted in floodwaters rising 26 feet in just 45 minutes, destroying numerous homes and vehicles, drastically affecting community infrastructure.
As of now, the aftermath of the floods has left over 170 individuals unaccounted for. Emergency services, including the Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services teams, are actively on the ground, providing meals, hydration, and emotional support to those in distress. Despite these efforts, ongoing support is crucial as the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
In the wake of these events, the Together For Texas donation campaign has already raised more than $120,000 within its first 24 hours. Local citizens and organizations have been encouraged to contribute through various established relief funds, including the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. The Salvation Army in Kerrville, in particular, is accepting donations of non-perishable food and hygiene items to be distributed to flood victims.
Additionally, multiple nonprofit organizations, such as TEXSAR, the American Red Cross, and Mercy Chefs, are involved in rescue and relief efforts across the affected areas. Major corporations have also stepped in; Walmart and Sam’s Club, along with their foundation, are pledging up to $500,000 for recovery initiatives, including a matching donation program for customer contributions. Airbnb.org has joined the support efforts by providing emergency housing for those displaced by the floods.
Further initiatives to support flood relief are being organized by various local businesses. For instance, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and P. Terry’s are donating proceeds from sales to assist recovery efforts. The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country is another resource, having established a fund that guarantees all collected donations go directly to vetted local organizations working on the ground.
Infrastructures such as hospitals and emergency shelters have been set up to assist the displaced populations. The American Red Cross has opened several emergency shelters in response to the crisis, while churches and community groups, including Southern Oaks Church, are mobilizing efforts to collect donations and distribute essential supplies to those affected.
For those wishing to lend a helping hand, opportunities exist through platforms like GoFundMe, and numerous community donation drives are being organized throughout Texas. Texas Children’s Hospital is currently collecting goods specifically for families in need across Kerr County and surrounding regions.
As the demands for assistance continue to grow, there is an urgent focus on collecting essential supplies such as cash donations, non-perishable food, hygiene products, and essential household items. Community members and organizations are urged to act promptly to address the ongoing needs of those impacted by this natural disaster.
