Shreveport, Louisiana – A tragic discovery occurred at the Alsco Uniforms laundry facility on Wednesday morning when the body of a stillborn infant was found inside a linen bag. The Shreveport Police Department received a call regarding the grim find at approximately 5:30 a.m.
Employees at the facility initially mistook the remains for a doll before realizing it was in fact a human infant. The remains indicated signs of embalming and significant discoloration, suggesting the infant had been deceased for some time.
The stillborn baby was born on May 3 and had a funeral service on May 17 at Golden Gate Funeral Home and Crematory in Dallas, Texas. The plan was for the infant’s body to be cremated; however, it was inadvertently mixed in with soiled linens that were delivered from the Dallas funeral home to Shreveport.
Following the discovery, investigators were able to trace the linens back to the funeral home where the child’s services were carried out. The Texas funeral home confirmed that the remains originated from their facility but did not provide any explanation for how the body ended up in the laundry facility.
Local authorities in Shreveport have since transferred the investigation to Texas officials, including the Texas Mortuary Board and the Texas Funeral Service Commission. Initial findings indicate that no crime was committed in Shreveport, and a homicide has been ruled out.
The remains have been placed under the custody of the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office for further examination and processing. In light of the incident, Alsco has released a statement indicating they are fully cooperating with local authorities while stressing the integrity of their operations.
The Chief of the Shreveport Police Department described the situation as “deeply distressing” for those involved and the community at large. As the investigation moves forward, officials are concentrating on understanding how such a tragic oversight could occur and ensuring that similar incidents are prevented in the future.
