Dallas Celebrates 55th Anniversary of Pride Month with Various Events

June marks the start of Pride Month in Dallas, where members of the LGBTQ+ community will participate in a series of celebrations including protests, parades, parties, and concerts. This year is particularly significant as it commemorates the 55th anniversary of the first LGBTQ+ Pride march that took place in 1970.

Several North Texas cities and organizations will host a variety of events over the upcoming weeks, including:

  • Dallas Pride Music Festival
  • Dallas Pride Parade
  • Arlington Pride
  • FC Dallas Pride Night
  • Trinity Pride Fest
  • Dallas Arts District Pride Block Party

A notable event organized by the North Texas LGBT Chamber of Commerce is the Pride In Business Celebration & Awards luncheon, scheduled for June 27, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Dallas Hotel. This event honors eleven individuals for their contributions and focuses on enhancing LGBTQ+ economic inclusion. It also holds the distinction of being the only event in North Texas dedicated to the LGBTQ+ business community.

Pride Month Kickoff Events

The City of Dallas will officially launch Pride Month with a flag-raising ceremony and Resource Fair at Dallas City Hall Plaza on May 30 at 5 p.m. Music at this ceremony will be provided by DJ Eternos. Throughout June, the city’s rainbow Pride flag will fly over city buildings as mandated by city ordinance, while the downtown skyline will be illuminated with multi-colored lights from May 30 to June 1 in support of Pride Month.

City officials expected to be in attendance include council members Omar Narvaez, Chad West, Paul Ridley, and Mayor Pro Tem Tennell Atkins, along with State Rep. Jessica Gonzalez. Participating organizations at the event will include the Dallas Police Department, Dallas Fire and Rescue, Dallas Wings, Dallas Mavericks, and Dallas County Health and Human Services.

Weather Contingencies

In the event of inclement weather, the flag-raising ceremony will be moved to the Flag Room at Dallas City Hall to ensure that the festivities proceed smoothly.

Historical Significance of Pride Month

Pride Month is a time for the LGBTQ+ community to celebrate their identities while advocating for equal rights and social acceptance. The commemoration began in 1970 to honor the Stonewall Riots, a pivotal moment in LGBTQ+ history. Over the decades, Pride Month has evolved into a worldwide celebration, characterized by its vibrant parades, educational events, and robust activism.

As North Texas joins in this celebration of diversity and inclusion, the events planned throughout June are set to not only commemorate the past but also encourage progress toward a more inclusive future.
