The win, which occurred during a thrilling four-man playoff, included notable competitors such as Louis Oosthuizen, Jinichiro Kozuma, and Paul Casey. Reed sealed the victory on the first playoff hole, making a critical birdie putt from 16.5 feet, securing his triumph in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.
Entering the final round with a commanding three-shot lead, Reed managed to stretch his advantage to five shots as his competitors faced numerous challenges throughout the round. Under the leadership of Bryson DeChambeau, Crushers GC benefitted from a strong showing, with multiple players finishing in the top 11 of the individual leaderboard. DeChambeau himself ended the tournament tied for ninth at four under par, completing the final round with a score of 68. His efforts to promote the tournament resulted in an overwhelming turnout, attracting more than 50,000 fans over the event’s duration, including a record-setting single-day attendance of over 20,000 on Saturday.
Reed’s recent victory held special significance as it was his first win in Texas since his time as a junior golfer, emphasizing the emotional weight the achievement carried for him. Following the conclusion of the tournament, Reed expressed both relief and excitement at accomplishing two key milestones: winning for the first time on the LIV tour and doing so in his home state.
LIV Golf’s revamped scoring format, implemented for team competition, takes into account all players’ scores from each round, allowing for a more inclusive and engaging team event. Aside from the Crushers GC, other finishing positions included 4Aces GC at second place with a total score of -7, and Legion XIII taking third place with -6.
