Grand Prairie, Texas – A tragic weekend on North Texas roads has resulted in nine fatalities across four different crashes. This deadly series of incidents highlights the ongoing issue of reckless driving and its devastating consequences.
One of the most severe incidents occurred around 1:45 a.m. Saturday in Grand Prairie. A driver identified as 26-year-old Llonis Arevalo was attempting to evade police while driving a Chevrolet Camaro. The pursuit began when a patrolling officer observed Arevalo’s Camaro driving suspiciously due to a traffic violation. After fleeing into a parking lot, Arevalo accelerated onto Interstate 30 eastbound, where he collided with a disabled vehicle while attempting to take an exit. The driver of the disabled vehicle was seriously injured and later died at a trauma center. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released as notifications to next of kin are still pending. Arevalo, who is a documented gang member out on bond for multiple felony offenses, has been charged with murder, evading arrest causing death, resisting arrest, and collision involving death. His passenger remains at large.
In a separate incident in Grayson County, just before 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, a three-vehicle collision occurred on Farm-to-Market Road 3133. This crash happened when a 2007 Dodge 3500 attempted to pass a 2017 Toyota Tacoma in a no-passing zone and collided head-on with a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the Silverado, 41-year-old Tommy Moorehead III, was pronounced dead at the scene along with his two young passengers, aged just 4 and 6. The driver of the Dodge 3500, 63-year-old Rocky Patterson, has been arrested and charged with three counts of manslaughter, with his bond set at $3 million.
In another incident in Plano, around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, three individuals lost their lives in a crash on U.S. Highway 75. Their vehicle hit a concrete barrier before catching fire, and all three victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The identification of these individuals is still being determined.
The grim weekend continued when a head-on collision occurred on the Dallas North Tollway shortly after 4:30 a.m. Sunday. A 2020 Dodge Durango was driving northbound in the southbound lanes when it struck a 2018 Mercedes CLA250. The driver of the Mercedes was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger died later at the hospital. Another passenger from the Mercedes suffered critical injuries. The driver of the Dodge Durango sustained serious injuries and is currently suspected of intoxication. This incident marks another tragic outcome from reckless driving behavior.
As investigations continue, local law enforcement agencies, including the Grand Prairie Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, are gathering evidence and details surrounding each of these incidents. Authorities urge the community to remain vigilant and drive responsibly to prevent such tragic losses in the future.
This weekend’s series of crashes serves as a devastating reminder of the importance of road safety and the severe consequences that can arise from reckless driving. The families of the victims are now dealing with the perpetual pain of loss following these unfortunate events.
