Dallas, Texas – A flood watch is currently in effect for much of North Texas, including the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth, lasting until Sunday evening. Residents are advised to stay alert as scattered storms continue, with significant rainfall expected over the weekend.
Forecasts indicate that rain totals may range from 1 to 3 inches, with some areas experiencing locally higher amounts. The National Weather Service warns that localized rain rates could reach up to 2 inches per hour in certain regions, posing an increased risk of flooding. As a result, water rescues have already taken place in the area due to flash flooding incidents.
On Saturday evening, scattered thunderstorms were already ongoing, and they are expected to persist overnight. The chance of rain and thunderstorms is forecasted at 50% for Sunday, with temperatures reaching a high of 88°F, accompanied by south-southwest winds ranging from 5-10 mph. Overnight lows are expected to rest around 74°F.
Additionally, the weather outlook for Monday calls for a 30% chance of showers or thunderstorms, with a high of 90°F and a low of 74°F. The subsequent weather pattern includes mostly sunny days, with temperatures steadily rising. Tuesday is expected to be hot and humid, with highs around 94°F and lows at 75°F. The forecast illustrates similar conditions for Wednesday, predicting a high of 95°F and a low of 76°F. By Thursday and Friday, temperatures are likely to remain hot with highs climbing to 96°F and 100°F, respectively.
As the week progresses, the potential for additional storms exists, particularly in areas situated west and north of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. As flooding conditions continue to pose risks, emergency services have been actively responding to reports of distress.
Dallas Fire-Rescue successfully conducted multiple water rescues due to the dangerous conditions. On Tuesday around 5:14 PM, they responded to calls regarding overturned kayaks in Mountain Creek Lake. Additionally, rescue operations were conducted in response to a man found distressed in a creek near Shady Trail. The situation escalated as various areas of high water resulted in road closures in Carrollton, with police addressing several flooding reports. Furthermore, a BNSF train faced delays due to being blocked by rising water levels, leading to significant traffic backups.
In light of these developments, the National Weather Service has issued warnings regarding significant localized flooding, and the community has been urged to remain vigilant in monitoring the evolving weather conditions. While storms continue throughout the weekend, forecasts suggest that the weather will gradually dry out and intensify in heat as it shifts back to typical summer temperatures for July.
Residents are encouraged to take precautions, avoid flooded areas, and prepare for possible emergencies as conditions evolve into next week.
