Austin, Texas – Matej Blümel has solidified his position as a key player for the Texas Stars, a leading team in the American Hockey League (AHL). Over three seasons with the Stars, Blümel’s performance has consistently improved, leading to remarkable achievements in the ongoing 2024-25 season.
This season, Blümel leads the AHL with 39 goals and ranks second in total points with 69, combining his goal tally with 33 assists. In addition, he shares sixth place in the league with 11 power-play goals and has contributed two short-handed goals as well as six game-winning goals. Notably, he tops the league in shots on goal, having taken 265 shots this season.
As a testament to his outstanding performance, Blümel has been selected for the 2024-25 AHL First All-Star Team. His impressive statistics highlight his potential as a valuable asset, not only for the Texas Stars but also as a possible addition to the Dallas Stars’ NHL roster. His performances come at a time when General Manager Jim Nill is considering promotions from the Texas Stars, particularly with Brendan Smith’s contract set to expire.
The past week showcased Blümel’s skill when he delivered a hat trick performance, helping the Texas Stars secure a 5-4 victory over the Cleveland Monsters. Following this success, the Texas Stars are set to face the Manitoba Moose for two additional regular-season games, while playoff tickets are already available for fans.
Blümel’s consistent progress is underscored by his statistics over his career with the Texas Stars. He currently stands sixth on the team’s all-time goal-scoring leaderboard, amassing 89 goals in just 195 AHL games. Furthermore, he is on track to become one of the few players in Texas Stars history to surpass 70 points in a single season, having set a franchise record for goals in a season with his current total of 39.
In addition to his success in the AHL, Blümel has also made appearances in the NHL. Throughout his career, he has skated in 13 NHL games, managing to score a total of two goals. His most recent NHL game was on January 19, against the Detroit Red Wings, where he netted one goal.
The Texas Stars are gearing up for their next challenge as they plan to confront the Ontario Reign on Tuesday at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park. The Stars’ current form and Blümel’s contributions will be crucial as the team seeks to maintain momentum toward potential playoff success.
