Dallas—Lorie Blair has won the runoff election to represent District 8 of Dallas, securing a significant leadership change after longtime council member Tennell Atkins reached his term limit. According to unofficial vote totals, Blair received just over 56% of the votes, while her opponent, former council member Erik Wilson, received just under 44%. Blair’s victory comes after a prior election on May 6, in which both candidates garnered around 40% of the vote, necessitating a runoff on June 7. Meanwhile, Wilson, who previously served on the council from 2015 to 2017, sought to maintain momentum from his earlier tenure. However, he faced criticism due to his support from a political action committee (PAC) funded by Airbnb. This raised concerns regarding his stance on short-term rentals, which have become a contentious issue in Dallas.
Campaign finance records revealed that Airbnb contributed $500,000 to the Revitalize Dallas PAC, which supported Wilson’s campaign along with other candidates.
