The City of Dallas is progressing on the Lemmon Avenue Streetscape Project, aimed at improving the Love Field area with landscaping and connectivity. The initiative is set to enhance walkability and bicycle accessibility while construction continues on nearby parks. The expected completion date for the project is Fall 2025. Community involvement has been significant in shaping these improvements, reinforcing local safety and aesthetic values. Despite some traffic disruptions during construction, residents are optimistic about the positive changes in property values and overall experience in the neighborhood.

Dallas – The City of Dallas is making significant progress on the Lemmon Avenue Streetscape Project, aimed at enhancing the Dallas Love Field area with improved landscaping, trails, and increased greenery. Construction has advanced over the past month, including the planting of trees and ground cover along Lemmon Avenue along with the installation of trail canopies. The project is scheduled for completion by Fall 2025.

This initiative is part of the recent update to the airport’s master plan, which focuses on enhancing safety, walkability, and bicycle accessibility in the neighborhood. The city has confirmed that the project remains on schedule. Currently, Midway Manor Park is approximately 60% complete and is set to reopen in July. The park improvements will include new playground equipment with safer, rubber flooring, as well as a perimeter walking trail, replacing the old park to better serve local children and families.

Dallas Park Board Member Calvert Collins-Bratton has pointed out that nearby Bachman Lake Park has suffered from neglect in previous years and expressed enthusiasm about the ongoing projects. Construction is also continuing on the Primary Gateway feature at the busy intersection of Lemmon Avenue, Mockingbird Lane, and Airdrome Drive. This feature will showcase “flight-related” artwork as part of the overall design.

Additionally, an Aircraft Observation Area is being developed at George Coker Circle, designed to provide a dedicated space for aviation enthusiasts to observe planes during takeoff and landing. The Friends of Bachman Lake group has played a significant role in these developments, displaying consistent commitment and community support. In March, the group facilitated the planting of 38 trees along the Bachman Lake shoreline and is actively working on reclaiming and connecting trails around Bachman Lake Park and the Bachman Lake Greenbelt.

Invasive species removal efforts have been initiated under Operation Goat, where the parks department has cleared invasive privet plants to facilitate easier trail creation in the greenbelt area. This effort to expand the trail system in Dallas is aimed at benefitting all residents by providing better connectivity and outdoor spaces.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly constructed Bachman Lake Skatepark is scheduled for May 17 at 10 a.m., marking another significant milestone in the area’s upgrade. Community feedback and involvement have been vital in shaping these local projects, ensuring that they align with residents’ needs and concerns.

Residents have shown positive sentiments regarding the upcoming changes, with many anticipating an increase in property values and improvements in general aesthetics and safety. The upgrades are expected to significantly enhance the overall travel and residential experience in the area while fostering a more accessible environment.

Despite the promising developments, some traffic disruptions have been reported in the vicinity due to ongoing construction. These disruptions are projected to continue until the project’s completion, slated for early 2025. Dallas Love Field Airport is committed to maintaining open lines of communication with the community, encouraging public feedback throughout the duration of the project.
