Filming of the series Landman in Dallas with road closures

News Summary

The filming of the second season of ‘Landman’ in the Knox District of Dallas caused significant road closures on Monday. Produced primarily at 2200 Flora St. and Mister Charles restaurant, the shoot prompted police reroutes for local traffic. Residents were advised in advance about the impact on surrounding businesses, while fans gathered to spot Billy Bob Thornton on set. The series, focusing on the West Texas oil industry, continues to film across North Texas, highlighting Dallas as a vibrant backdrop for storytelling.

Dallas – The filming of the second season of the popular series “Landman,” starring Billy Bob Thornton, caused significant road closures in the Knox District of Dallas on Monday morning. The production took place primarily at 2200 Flora St. from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., with additional scenes filmed inside and outside the well-known Michelin-recommended restaurant Mister Charles from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

To manage the impact on traffic, Dallas police were deployed to re-route motorists around the affected areas, which included:

  • Knox Street closed between Travis and Cole streets
  • 4500 block of Cole Street closed
  • Flora Street closed between Pearl and Leonard streets
  • Crockett Street closed between Flora Street and Ross Avenue

Residents and local businesses were informed about the closures in advance by Paramount+ location manager Brian Rey. Although the film set was closed to the public, many spectators gathered along the sidewalk near Mister Charles, eager to catch a glimpse of the filming process. Thornton was spotted entering the restaurant wearing a casual jean-blazer combo and a cowboy hat, accompanied by several extras.

About “Landman”

“Landman” is a series that spotlights the West Texas oil industry, centering on the life of chain-smoking crisis manager Tommy Norris, portrayed by Thornton. The show is adapted from Christian Wallace’s successful Texas Monthly podcast “Boomtown.” This season, the production is not limited to Dallas, as it has also filmed scenes in a variety of locations across North Texas, such as Fort Worth, Cresson, Jacksboro, Midland-Odessa, and even Durant, Oklahoma.

Before its Dallas shooting, the series had previously filmed episodes in Fort Worth and Jacksboro. As the momentum for the show continues to build, upcoming shoots in Fort Worth are planned to include scenes at Texas Christian University (TCU), hotel pool locations, and a strip club, with ongoing casting calls for extras seeking to join the production.

Community Impact

Local businesses, particularly those near the filming locations, were proactive in communicating with their clients about the potential for increased traffic and suggested allowing extra commute time. For example, the yoga studio Ritual One alerted its clientele via social media and word of mouth regarding the disruptions.

Show Reception and Cast

The first season of “Landman” premiered on Paramount+ in November 2024 and concluded its run on January 12, 2025. The series has received attention not just for its storyline but also for its strong ensemble cast, which features guest appearances from notable figures such as Michael Peña, Andy Garcia, and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

The filming in Dallas highlights the growing trend of using authentic Texas locales for television and film productions, reinforcing Dallas’s role as a vibrant backdrop for storytelling centered on the state’s unique culture and industries.

As filming continues, fans of the series anticipate more updates regarding the show’s progression and further opportunities to engage with the production as it showcases the intriguing world of West Texas oil exploration.
