News Summary

Ava Moore, an 18-year-old, was killed in a jet ski hit-and-run incident while kayaking on Grapevine Lake. The driver, Daikerlyn Gonzalez, has been arrested and charged with several felonies. The incident highlights the dangers of reckless watercraft operation and has prompted community grief and calls for safety.

Grapevine, Texas – A tragic jet ski hit-and-run incident on Sunday, May 25, resulted in the death of 18-year-old Ava Moore while she was kayaking on Grapevine Lake. The incident has led to the arrest of 21-year-old Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez, the driver of the jet ski involved in the collision.

Gonzalez was apprehended on Tuesday, May 27, at a residence in Oak Cliff, Dallas. This arrest followed a coordinated effort by local police, Texas Game Wardens, and federal agents. Alongside her, 21-year-old Maikel Coello Perozo, who allegedly aided Gonzalez in fleeing the scene, was also arrested after crashing into two vehicles while trying to escape. Both suspects have been identified as undocumented immigrants, as confirmed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Gonzalez is facing several serious charges, including second-degree felony manslaughter, reckless operation of a watercraft, excessive speed, and leaving the scene of an accident. The investigation has revealed that Moore was kayaking with another individual near Oak Grove Park when she was struck from behind by the jet ski, which was being operated recklessly at a high rate of speed. Witnesses indicated that prior to the collision, the jet ski made several passes near swimmers and kayakers, demonstrating a pattern of dangerous behavior.

After the crash, Gonzalez and her passenger attempted to leave the scene but returned moments later, prompting bystanders to intervene in an effort to contain them until law enforcement could arrive. Upon her arrest, Gonzalez’s bond was set at $500,000. The other passenger on the jet ski, Clerismar Colina-Lugo, provided assistance to the authorities but left the scene with Gonzalez and Perozo following the incident.

Ava Moore was a recent graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School and had plans to continue her service in the U.S. military. Friends and family have described Moore as someone who was deeply passionate about leadership and service, with aspirations of becoming a four-star general. The outpouring of grief from her community reflects the impact of this tragic event.

Currently, the investigation into the jet ski crash is being led by Texas Game Wardens, while the related incidents involving the vehicle hit-and-run are being managed by the Grapevine Police Department. The authorities are continuing to gather information to ensure accountability for those involved and to prevent similar events in the future.

This incident highlights the importance of safety on the water and the potential consequences of reckless behavior. Law enforcement officials are urging boaters and watercraft operators to exercise caution and responsibility while navigating Texas lakes and waterways.
