HOUSTON, TEXAS

A heartbreaking car accident claimed the lives of a Houston family of five while they were traveling to Dallas for a Mother’s Day celebration. The tragic incident unfolded on Saturday, May 14, 2025, at approximately 3 p.m. on Interstate 45, near FM 977 in Leon County, Texas.

The victims have been identified as the Cerda family, which included Hermenegildo Melendez, 55, Veronica Cerda, 53, and their three daughters: Veronica Denise Cerda, 26, Rebecca Cerda, 20, and Daniela Cerda, 18. They were traveling in a 2023 Ford F-150 pickup truck when the collision occurred.

The accident was initiated when a 43-year-old driver, Toriano Fair from Dallas, lost control of his 2016 Dodge pickup truck. Fair’s vehicle veered off the roadway, hit a guardrail, crossed the median, and collided head-on with the Cerda family’s truck. The impact was severe enough to cause both vehicles to burst into flames. According to authorities, there were no survivors from the Cerda family, and they all died at the scene.
