He poured lighter fluid over Harris and ignited her as she attempted to open the cash register, leading to her death five days later from severe burns.
The incident saw Johnson stealing cash, two lighters, and two packs of cigarettes, while also attempting to remove a ring from Harris’ finger. Surveillance footage captured the chilling moments of the crime, revealing Harris’ desperate struggle to extinguish the flames and her cries for help. After the attack, Harris was hospitalized with second- to fourth-degree burns covering 40% of her body and was placed on a ventilator before passing away on May 25, 2012.
