Dallas is experiencing a significant revival in its culinary scene this May, marked by numerous major restaurant openings and innovative dining options. Following a period of slower activity in the food sector, this month’s developments reflect a renewed excitement among local food enthusiasts.
One of the standout openings is Burger Schmurger, a beloved smashburger pop-up that has secured a new permanent location in Lake Highlands. The eatery had a successful soft opening on April 30, with a grand opening anticipated shortly. This transition from pop-up to brick-and-mortar signifies the growing demand for its popular offerings.
In the Lowest Greenville area, Las Brasas, a new taco spot founded by the team behind Mami Coco, has officially debuted, adding to the variety of flavors available in the neighborhood. Customers can expect a fresh take on traditional taco fare.
Meanwhile, in Plano, the Rye and Apothecary team is preparing to launch an all-day bistro named Flamant toward the end of May. The menu promises to feature an eclectic mix of European dishes, appealing to diverse palates.
Another addition to the Dallas food landscape is the newly opened rooftop space, Terrazza da Triozzi, from Via Triozzi. This venue showcases a revamped menu that includes pizza, providing diners with a pleasant outdoor dining experience.
Uptown will see the arrival of Mamani, an upscale restaurant led by Chef Christophe de Lellis, who is recognized for his past tenure at Joël Robuchon’s Las Vegas location. Mamani is expected to bring an elevated dining experience to the Quadrangle area.
Additionally, Chef Anastacia Quiñones-Pittman is transitioning from José with plans to establish a new Mexican restaurant named Eledi. Details regarding the location and opening date have yet to be announced.
For sushi lovers, the establishment of Kappo Tatsu, a more casual counterpart to Tatsu, is on the horizon. This new eatery is set to feature menu items distinct from those found at the omakase sushi counter.
In a noteworthy development for diversity in cuisine, a Palestinian restaurant called Ayat is expected to open in the near future, representing a new culinary avenue for Dallas residents.
On the menu front, Rye will introduce a new tasting menu with a ‘summer vacation’ theme on May 9, adding an exciting option for diners looking to explore seasonal flavors. Additionally, Restaurant Beatrice is celebrating its third anniversary with special drink promotions from May 2 to 8, while Nikki Greek Bistro & Lounge is rolling out a new lunch special titled “Six Under $20” to attract lunchtime crowds.
The vegetarian dining options in Dallas are also flourishing, highlighted by restaurants such as Written by the Seasons and Simply South, which focus on creating flavorful and satisfying vegetarian dishes.
Notable upcoming events include a discussion with writer Ted Genoways on May 4, where he will talk about his book related to José Cuervo. In addition, the Burger Fight charity event is set for May 25, aiming to celebrate burgers while supporting a good cause. The Texas Monthly Taco Fest will take place on May 31 in Grand Prairie, showcasing several top taco vendors and a chance for taco lovers to indulge in various flavors.
As Dallas continues to broaden its culinary horizons, many local barbecue joints are recommended for visits before the upcoming release of the Texas Monthly’s 50 Best list this summer. Additionally, Domodomo, a Japanese restaurant offering a tasting menu, is set to expand dining experiences in the area.
Upcoming openings are highlighted by diverse cuisines, including Italian, Taiwanese, and Mediterranean options. Furthermore, the new Oxford Rose Tavern & Supper Club will combine live entertainment with American cuisine featuring European influences, creating a vibrant dining atmosphere.
Fans of New York-style pizza can look forward to the arrival of Prince Street Pizza, which will open its first location in Texas in Dallas. Meanwhile, La Tiki Paisa has opened inside La Casita Coffee, now offering dinner options to diners.
Lastly, Chef Casey Thompson is set to lead the kitchen at the new Noblesse Hotel restaurant in Fort Worth, while other unique culinary concepts, such as Domodomo and Serritella, are in the pipeline, promising to enrich the array of dining choices in the Dallas area.
