With activities planned throughout the month, residents can engage and celebrate diversity in the heart of Dallas.
Dallas is gearing up for a vibrant month of activities celebrating the LGBTQ community, highlighted by the annual Love Equality fundraiser for Equality Texas. The event is set to take place on Saturday, May 10, at The Echo Lounge. This signature fundraiser will feature a silent auction and ballroom performances, with tickets priced at $100 available for purchase online. The previous year’s Love Equality event honored Marsha Dimes with the 2024 Legacy Award, an acknowledgment of her contributions to the community.
On the eve of the Love Equality fundraiser, Dallas will host the Reverchon Health Expo on May 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Reverchon Recreation Center. This free community event aims to promote healthy lifestyles and well-being among residents. Additionally, Hero Fest ’25 will take place in Griggs Park on May 10, celebrating local heroes from the Dallas Police and SWAT. This family-friendly festival will offer various activities and entertainment from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
For seniors in the community, the THRIVE Wednesday Support Group meets weekly to provide support for LGBTQ adults aged 50 and older at the Resource Center Community Center. Led by SMU counseling interns, the group aims to foster a sense of belonging and companionship among its members.
Art enthusiasts can explore An Exhibition at the Craighead Green Gallery featuring works by artists Pamela Nelson, Heather Gorham, and Chris Mason, running until May 10. Furthermore, the Bishop Arts Theatre Center is presenting A Dallas Hedda, a re-imagining of Ibsen’s classic play, from May 11 to May 13, showcasing local talent in a fresh context.
On May 13, a three-part series titled Crucial Conversations: Challenging Anti-Semitism will be held at the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum. This important discussion aims to address issues that affect the broader community and promote understanding and respect among different groups.
The month continues with various social events, including the Men’s+ Social Group Dinner hosted by Tyler Area Gays+ on May 14 at Aztec in Tyler, and the QUEERelate – Authentic Relating event on May 15 at Oak Lawn United Methodist Church. Also on May 15, performers Andrea Fernandez Tom, Andy Zapata, and Jodi Crawford Wright will take the stage at Sammons Cabaret, held at the Sammons Center for the Arts.
Community engagement continues with the Prime Timers of DFW, who are organizing a Mall Walk at Dallas Galleria on May 15, and the TAG+ Trivia Night at Rose City Draft House for adults aged 21 and over. The Main Street Festival, Grapevine’s 41st annual event, will happen from May 16-18, featuring a plethora of activities from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day.
