Emergency services dealing with a flooded street in Dallas

News Summary

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to multiple flooding incidents overnight due to severe rainstorms causing significant water accumulation. Vehicles were found submerged, and numerous evacuation efforts were undertaken, including residential rescues. The flooding primarily affected major roadways, leading to hazardous conditions and significant power outages in the region. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, while forecasts indicate a return to sunnier weather following the storm.

Dallas – Overnight, Dallas Fire-Rescue teams responded to multiple high water incidents as a substantial storm caused severe flooding across the area. The first report came in around 12:09 a.m. from the site located at 12900 Park Central Drive, which lies underneath the Interstate 635 bridge. Fire department officials, equipped with a swift water rescue team, were dispatched promptly to the scene amid the hazardous conditions.

Upon arrival, responders discovered at least two vehicles submerged beneath the floodwaters. Eyewitnesses noted two individuals exiting one of the vehicles, while the condition of the second vehicle remains unclear. Fire officials have indicated that this situation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

The flooding in North Texas resulted from heavy rainfall that has led to numerous incidents of stranded vehicles and roads becoming impassable. Significant flooding occurred particularly on IH635 and Garland Road, as excessive rain triggered multiple collisions and left vehicles stuck on the roadways. In total, over four inches of rain was recorded at the airport, with January’s rainfall reaching 5.5 inches, making it the third wettest January on record in North Texas.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has reported that clogged drains have contributed to flooding during previous storm events. In response to these ongoing challenges, the Pegasus Link Constructors team has committed to addressing flooding problems connected to the construction of the 635 East Project, which commenced in 2020 and is scheduled for completion in 2025.

In conjunction with ongoing drainage inspections and water pumping operations, Dallas Fire-Rescue has been actively evacuating individuals trapped beneath bridges and responding to additional flooding emergencies. One notable incident involved residential flooding, where six individuals were reported stranded inside a home. A minivan owned by a local funeral home was also caught in the floodwaters and required a heavy wrecker for extraction once water levels started to recede.

To inform and protect the public, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office utilized social media to warn drivers about the hazardous high water conditions on various roadways. Several collisions related to the flooding have been reported across multiple highways in the area, emphasizing the dangers posed by the storm’s aftermath.

In addition to the flooding, the severe weather has resulted in significant power outages affecting hundreds of homes in both Dallas and Tarrant counties. Oncor crews have been mobilized to address and resolve these electricity disruptions as quickly as possible.

Looking ahead, the weather forecast indicates a shift towards sunny and warmer conditions following the overnight storm and resultant rain. While the immediate crisis of flooding poses significant challenges, Dallas officials continue to work diligently to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents impacted by these severe weather conditions.

As this is a developing story, further details will be made available as the situation unfolds and additional assessments of the affected areas are conducted.
