Road closures in Dallas during filming of 'Landman'

News Summary

On July 21, Dallas will see major road closures as filming for Season 2 of ‘Landman’ takes over key areas. Knox, Flora, and Crockett Streets will be affected, urging locals to avoid these zones. The series, featuring Billy Bob Thornton, explores the historical context of oil companies in the Wild West and has drawn interest after its premiere on Paramount+. Filming will continue throughout the week, with more scenes scheduled at local venues, enhancing the city’s cultural landscape.

Dallas is set to experience significant road closures on July 21, 2025, as filming for Season 2 of the popular series ‘Landman’ takes place across various high-traffic areas in the city. The city officials have confirmed that the production will temporarily shift from Fort Worth to Dallas, attracting attention and potential disruptions in those neighborhoods.

Affected roads include Knox Street, which will close from Cole Avenue to Travis Street between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Additionally, Flora Street will be closed from Pearl Street to Leonard Street from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Crockett Street will also close from Flora Street to Ross Avenue during the same timeframe. Authorities have established no-parking zones throughout the Knox-Henderson neighborhood to facilitate the production.

The city has advised residents and visitors to steer clear of the filming areas to ensure safety and minimize inconveniences. While filming is not open to the public, it has already begun to attract curious onlookers. The production has coordinated with Dallas police for efficient traffic control to manage the flow of vehicles during this period.

In terms of the series itself, ‘Landman’ features actor Billy Bob Thornton and explores the historical context of oil companies operating in the Wild West. The show, which premiered on Paramount+ in November 2024 and completed its first season on January 12, 2025, draws inspiration from a Texas Monthly podcast titled ‘Boomtown’. The first season received positive reviews and starred a notable cast, including Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, and Michael Peña.

Before making its way to Dallas, ‘Landman’ filmed scenes in Fort Worth and Jacksboro. Notable locations in these earlier shoots included Mister Charles, a Michelin-recommended restaurant, and settings like 2200 Flora St.. The production process involves setting up elaborate camera equipment and staging, making the logistics quite involved.

Filming in Dallas is expected to continue for the entire week, with plans to return to Fort Worth afterwards. On July 22, Texas Christian University, known as TCU, will host shooting for an on-campus scene, adding to the local flavor of the production. Furthermore, a hotel pool scene is scheduled for July 23, indicating a busy filming agenda ahead.

The series has previously utilized several local venues for shooting, including Hotel Drover and Rick’s Cabaret, contributing to the immersive experience that local viewers have come to appreciate. All episodes from the first season of ‘Landman’ are currently available for streaming on Paramount+, allowing fans to catch up on the storyline ahead of the new season’s episodes.
