DALLAS – Five women from the Dallas area tragically lost their lives in a fiery crash just north of Austin on U.S. 281. The accident occurred on the evening of Friday, with the crash being reported around 6 p.m.

The victims have been identified as Thalia Salinas, Ruby Cruz, Brianna Valadez, Desiree Cervantez, and Jacqueline Velazco. Families describe the incident as a devastating conclusion to what was meant to be a brief girls’ trip. In remembrance of the deceased, a memorial has been established near the crash site to honor their lives.

According to reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the accident was initiated when a livestock trailer unexpectedly crossed into the southbound lane. A Ram truck towing the livestock trailer struck a Chevy Malibu before it collided with the women’s Mercedes SUV. This collision caused the SUV to overturn and subsequently catch fire. Unfortunately, all five women were pronounced dead at the scene, while the occupants of the other vehicles involved sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Family of the victims conveyed that the women had longstanding relationships, with some friendships dating back to high school or early childhood. In light of this tragic loss, Ruby Cruz’s family has initiated fundraising efforts to cover her funeral expenses. Additionally, Brianna Valadez’s father announced that funds are being raised to assist with his family’s expenses following her untimely death. Brianna Valadez was remembered by her family as a bright light with a gentle spirit, particularly known for her work at Oak Cliff Pediatrics.

The families have expressed a desire for privacy and support during this difficult time and have refrained from making public statements until the investigation into the accident concludes. The DPS is conducting an investigation into the incident, but so far, no charges have been announced against any of the drivers involved in the crash.

This tragic event has left the Dallas community in mourning as they remember the five women who were taken too soon. As the families cope with their loss, the community is coming together in support and remembrance of the lives lost.
