Born on January 16, 1928, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Bill was the only child of Walter Edward and Mary Effie Rose Mannas, both of whom have passed away. Bill’s upbringing included several moves that led him and his family to Alexandria, Louisiana, where he spent his teenage years. At just 16, he enrolled in Texas A&M University, earning degrees in petroleum and mechanical engineering.
After completing his education, Bill relocated to Chicago to begin his career as a petroleum engineer with Pure Oil Company. It was there that he met his first wife, Dolores Duffy, at a Catholic Youth Organization dance in 1950. The couple married and went on to have eight children together over the course of 26 years of marriage before Dolores passed away. Following her death, Bill remained dedicated to family life, often ensuring his mother was included in gatherings after his father’s early passing when she was 50.
Bill Mannas spent most of his professional life working with Kadane Oil Company, based in Wichita Falls, Texas, until his move to Dallas in 1975. In 1981, he married his second wife, Rita Mannas. Bill was known for his active involvement in family life, relishing opportunities to camp, boat, and travel with his children. He maintained a diverse range of interests, which included reading, gardening, and following the stock market, alongside a commitment to staying informed about current events.
Bill Mannas is survived by his seven children: Carolyn Johnson and her husband Douglas of Adelphi, Maryland; David Mannas and his wife Cynthia of Durango, Colorado; MaryAnn Hill and her husband Robert of Denver, Colorado; Kenneth Mannas and his wife Susan Dawson of Austin, Texas; Susan Brown of Tucson, Arizona; Linda Maska and her husband Christopher of Austin, Texas; and John Mannas and his wife Sonbol of Dallas, Texas. Additionally, he is survived by four stepchildren: Chris Mahowald and his wife Ann of Dallas, Texas; Dan Mahowald of Boulder, Colorado; Ward Mahowald and his wife Deanna of Dallas, Texas; and Molly Gillard and her husband PJ of Dallas, Texas.
In total, Bill leaves behind a large and loving family, including 24 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Dolores Mannas, and his oldest son, Robert Mannas. Bill will be laid to rest at Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
