Promoting safety awareness in water activities after a tragic accident.
Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez has been arrested following a tragic jet ski accident at Grapevine Lake that led to the death of 18-year-old Ava Moore. Gonzalez, charged with second-degree felony manslaughter, reportedly collided with Moore’s kayak during Memorial Day weekend. A male accomplice was arrested for fleeing the scene. As the investigation continues, community concerns have arisen regarding water safety and legal accountability in such incidents.
Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez, a 21-year-old woman, has been arrested following a tragic jet ski accident on Grapevine Lake that resulted in the death of 18-year-old kayaker Ava Moore. The incident occurred on May 25, 2025, during the Memorial Day weekend, when Gonzalez reportedly collided with Moore’s kayak.
Gonzalez, an undocumented immigrant from Venezuela, has been charged with second-degree felony manslaughter. Following the fatal crash, authorities set her bond at $500,000. Furthermore, a male accomplice, 21-year-old Maikel Coello Perozo, was also arrested. Perozo is accused of fleeing the scene with Gonzalez and later crashing his vehicle into two other cars while being pursued by law enforcement.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department confirmed that the investigation into the incident involved several agencies, including the Texas Attorney General’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations. Reports indicate that Gonzalez and Perozo initially evaded arrest but were apprehended in Dallas shortly after the accident.
Witnesses at Grapevine Lake reported seeing Gonzalez and her passenger operating the jet ski recklessly prior to the collision. Moore was struck and fell into the water, where she was later rescued and brought to a hospital. Despite wearing a life jacket and receiving CPR, she succumbed to severe head trauma shortly thereafter.
In the wake of this tragic accident, Attorney General Ken Paxton expressed deep concern over the incident, labeling Moore’s death as “senseless” and attributing it to an “illegal alien” who, in his view, should not be present in the United States. Investigations to determine the full extent of the circumstances surrounding the crash and hit-and-run events are ongoing.
Ava Moore, who had recently graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School, was on the brink of starting her basic training with the U.S. military. Family and friends have described her as an exemplary student and a dedicated teammate, with aspirations of becoming a leader in military service. In remembrance of her life, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched by her family to cover funeral expenses, successfully raising over $11,500 towards a goal of $20,000.
The incident has raised significant concern within the Grapevine community, highlighting the need for safety measures on the water, especially during busy holiday weekends. As the investigation unfolds, authorities remain focused on both the fatality associated with the watercraft and the automotive hit-and-run actions that followed the collision.
In conclusion, as both Gonzalez and Perozo await further legal proceedings, the family of Ava Moore continues to cope with their profound loss, shining a spotlight on the importance of water safety and legal accountability in tragic incidents involving motorized water vehicles.
