DALLAS, Texas — Getting to the polls in Dallas on Tuesday, Nov. 3, should be a little easier. Dallas Area Rapid Transit will let voters ride for free, and Dallas ISD students will have the day off because many of their schools will be in use as polling places.
DART said riders who show a valid government ID or a voter registration card can use buses, light rail, the Dallas Streetcar, the Silver Line, the Trinity Railway Express, paratransit and GoLink at no charge. The offer applies wherever DART runs across five counties: Dallas, Collin, Denton, Ellis and Rockwall.
App users can enter the code VOTENOV3 in GoPass to get a free Adult Day Pass good for unlimited trips on fixed bus and rail routes. The same code unlocks up to three free round trips, or six single rides, on GoLink. Paratransit riders need to book a day ahead at 214-515-7272 and tell the agent they are headed to vote so the trip is logged as free.
Erin Myers, DART’s vice president of public relations, said free rides will run from the start of service until it ends that day, even though voting hours run only from 7 in the morning until 7 at night.
Dallas ISD said its campuses will host voting on Election Day, so students will not attend class. Teachers will spend the day on professional development, and district offices will stay open with central staff working normal hours.
Early voting continues through Friday, Oct. 30, at any early voting site in a voter’s county of registration. Texas voters casting a ballot in person must show one of seven accepted forms of photo identification, such as a Texas driver’s license or a state election identification certificate.
