News Summary

As the school year approaches, Dallas is preparing to assist families facing financial difficulties. Local organizations are organizing events like the Back-to-School Giveaway and the Annual Dallas Mayor’s Back to School Fair to provide essential supplies and services to students. These initiatives aim to alleviate the burden of school shopping and ensure that economically disadvantaged students can start the school year equipped with what they need to succeed.

Dallas is gearing up for the new school year as local organizations prepare to support families facing financial pressures. With the season of shopping for school supplies upon us, events are being organized to help ease the burden on Dallas families, especially those with economically disadvantaged students.

The first major event is the Back-to-School Giveaway, hosted by Dream Center Dallas on Saturday, August 2, at 10 a.m. This giveaway will take place at 1900 S. Ewing Ave, Dallas, TX 75216. Local students from kindergarten through sixth grade can receive free backpacks, school supplies, and brand-new shoes on a first-come, first-served basis. No prior registration is required, but families are encouraged to fill out a brief form to help organizers plan for shoe sizes. In addition to the supplies, families can enjoy rides, games, food, and prizes—all at no cost.

Immediately preceding this event is the 29th Annual Dallas Mayor’s Back to School Fair, taking place on Friday, August 1, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fair Park. Managed by the Mayor’s Office in collaboration with Dallas Independent School District (DISD) and the Junior League of Dallas, this fair aims to prepare students for school by offering essential supplies and services. Registration for this event is open until Friday, July 25, and is necessary for participants to receive school supplies. Eligibility criteria require either residence in Dallas or enrollment in a Dallas ISD school.

This year, the fair is expected to serve over 10,000 economically disadvantaged students and families. Participants will have access to free school supplies, immunizations, dental screenings, vision exams, and haircuts. Over 100 local vendors will be present at the fair, providing additional free giveaways. Through this initiative, the community comes together to support children’s educational futures.

Both events highlight the commitment of Dallas residents to enhance educational opportunities for local youth. Mayor Eric Johnson has recognized the fair as one of the most impactful events in the city, underscoring the importance of community support in ensuring that children are equipped for their academic journeys.

For families looking for additional assistance, the fair will also provide access to health and social services, further supporting overall student well-being as the school year begins. Volunteer opportunities, sponsorship, and vendor registration for the fair are all available online, encouraging community involvement in these significant initiatives.

The upcoming back-to-school events in Dallas not only aim to alleviate the financial pressures on families but also foster a sense of unity and support among the community, ensuring that students can begin the school year prepared and confident.
