The victim, identified as DeeAnthony Renaze Armstead, also 18, was found shot at the scene and was pronounced dead shortly after. A second victim was discovered at the same location and self-transported to a hospital; it remains unclear if Jones was connected to this individual.

Dallas police have not disclosed whether Jones and Armstead were acquainted or provided information regarding the motive for the shooting.

Additionally, police are investigating a shooting that occurred on U.S. Highway 75, which resulted in one fatality.
