Austin, Texas – January 13, 2026
Texas women’s basketball coach Vic Schaefer has expressed frustration with the Southeastern Conference (SEC) scheduling, alleging a perceived bias against the Longhorns.
Following a 70-65 loss to LSU on January 11, Schaefer criticized the SEC for scheduling back-to-back road games against top-ranked teams, LSU and South Carolina. He questioned the fairness of this arrangement, stating that it “really has a stench to it.”
However, Schaefer’s claim that no other SEC team faces similar scheduling challenges has been contested. Missouri, for instance, is set to play LSU and South Carolina consecutively on the road in February.
Despite the loss, Schaefer acknowledged the competitive nature of the SEC, referring to it as “a bear” with “one monster after another.” He emphasized the importance of embracing these challenges as part of the program’s commitment to excellence.
The Longhorns are scheduled to face South Carolina on January 15, 2026, in another critical conference matchup.
