BALTIMORE, Md. — Down two quarterbacks, the Baltimore Ravens are closing in on a trade with the Arizona Cardinals for veteran passer Jacoby Brissett, with the deal expected to be wrapped up over the weekend.
Neither club has announced the move, and the terms have not been made public. Arizona head coach Mike LaFleur declined to discuss specifics Wednesday, saying only that he expected the matter to be settled within a few days.
Baltimore’s need is urgent. Lamar Jackson is sidelined with a thumb injury and Tyler Huntley is out with a toe injury, leaving undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano to make his first NFL start Thursday night when the Jacksonville Jaguars visit M&T Bank Stadium. Because the trade will not be complete before that game, Brissett’s first chance to play for Baltimore would come on Monday night, Nov. 16, against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Brissett, 33, is in his 11th NFL season and has made 73 career starts. He opened this season as Arizona’s starter for eight games, passing for 1,719 yards with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions, before being pulled for Gardner Minshew II during Sunday’s comeback win over the Dallas Cowboys. On Monday, LaFleur dropped him to third on the depth chart behind Minshew and rookie Carson Beck.
Last season was the best of his career, with 3,366 passing yards and 23 touchdowns against eight interceptions in 12 starts. Baltimore’s quarterbacks coach also coached Brissett in Arizona, which should help him learn the offense quickly.
Baltimore would be the seventh NFL team of his career. The Ravens have dropped three in a row and are 4-4, last in the AFC North, with nine games left.
