DALLAS, Texas — The Dallas Stars go for their fifth win in a row Sunday night when they host the New York Islanders in Dallas, a matchup that brings former Stars coach Pete DeBoer back to American Airlines Center.

Puck drop is set for 5 p.m. Central. Dallas is 6-3-1 and New York is 5-3-2, and the game is the third of a six-game homestand for the Stars that closes out October.

Dallas has won its last two in overtime, over the Boston Bruins and then the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday, 3-2. Roope Hintz scored twice against Winnipeg, including the game-winner, his seventh career overtime goal, which ties him for fourth in franchise history. Hintz has eight points in 10 games and a three-game point streak. Wyatt Johnston also scored his first goal of the season.

Expect a low-scoring night. The Stars lead the NHL by allowing 1.60 goals per game, and the Islanders rank third at 2.20. Jake Oettinger, the expected Dallas starter, has a .939 save percentage, second in the league, along with three shutouts. Ilya Sorokin is expected in net for New York with a 1.71 goals-against average.

DeBoer coached Dallas from 2022 to 2025 and went 149-68-29. The Islanders have earned a point in five straight games and open a three-game Western trip in Dallas. New York last played Thursday, rallying from two goals down before falling 3-2 in overtime to Los Angeles. Oettinger, meanwhile, has won three straight starts dating to Oct. 17 against Chicago.

Tyler Seguin leads current Stars against the Islanders with 28 career points, including 10 goals, in 28 games. Jason Robertson has eight points against New York, three of them from a February 2025 hat trick.
